Our History
McCarthy Funeral Home was established in 1907 by Eugene J. McCarthy. An Irish immigrant, Eugene started the business from his home at 39 Cottage Street in Saxonville. Since then, the McCarthy Family, most notably Eugene, Jr. “Gigi” and John tirelessly worked the business until 2015, when in an effort to spend more time with their families, Gene and John sold the funeral home to Brian McKinney, Robert J. Lawler and William Lawler. Bob and Bill Lawler are natives of Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury, and continue to run their family funeral home in West Roxbury.
The day to day operations are run by Brian C. McKinney, a native of St. Albans, VT, and West Roxbury, MA who has lived in Framingham with his wife Kerrin (Scolponeti), and their three sons, Aidan, Colin and Devin since purchasing the funeral home in 2015. Since then, they have expanded the business to be more reflective of the culturally diverse community that Framingham is today through Spanish and Portuguese interpreters, and services from traditional to cremation and international shipping.
Together, the three families have proudly served Framingham, Metrowest and Greater Boston communities in their time of need for the better part of 100 years and continue to do so as a family and Framingham owned business. We continue to take great pride in our ability to celebrate each life and family we serve individually and in new and unique ways, regardless of circumstance, faith or tradition. Just as Eugene did so many years ago.
