In Loving Memory
Paula J. (Poirier) Porter 75, a longtime Sudbury resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2024, surrounded by her family at Emerson Hospital. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts and was the daughter of Joan D. (Higgins) Poirier and the late Norman H. Poirier. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, of 50 years, Roy Porter.
Paula was raised in Waltham and was a graduate of Waltham High School. She worked as a home health aide, and in later years in her church and a dental office as an administrative assistant. Growing up she was a talented ballerina, dancing in many recitals through the age of 16. She was an avid Neil Diamond fan, and attended over 100 of his live concerts in her lifetime. Paula enjoyed trips to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, and her most memorable vacation was one she and Roy took to Las Vegas to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. For many years, Paula and her dear friend, Donna, would spend Tuesdays together shopping and hanging out together with their daughters.
Paula's most treasured memories were spent with family. She loved Christmas, and hosted Christmas Eve at her home every year, making sure every moment was captured with pictures. She also loved the beaches in Maine, and would leave the house before dawn and stay until after the sunset. In her later years, during the summer, she would visit her parents at Red Apple Campground in Kennebunk with children and grandchildren. The 4th of July was Paula's favorite day (no coincidence it was a day after her birthday!). She would always go to at least one fireworks display, where she camped out hours before listening to the 1812 Overture, and doing cartwheels on the beach to prove to all she could still do them!
Paula is survived by her loving mother, Joan Poirier of Waltham, her children, Carol Capone and her husband Rob, of Maynard, Christine Boyd and her husband Bob, of Sudbury, Amy Snow and her husband Jim, of Sudbury and Elizabeth Porter of Sudbury, her grandchildren, Jacquelyn Capone, Courtney Wesley and her husband Evan, Ashley Capone, Meagan Capone, Thomas Boyd, Lauren Boyd, Daniel Boyd, Hannah Snow, Brooklyn Porter, and great grandsons Connor Capone and Jack Wesley. She is also survived by her brothers, William (Anne) Poirier, Norman (Kris Watson) Poirier, brother/sister-in-laws, Doug, Doreen, Janice, William and Mark Porter and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Paula was predeceased by her grandson, Justin Robert Capone, her father, Norman H. Poirier, brother-in-law David Porter and her dear lifelong friend Donna DeVito.
Family and friends will honor and remember Paula's life by gathering for a time of visitation in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Saturday, February 17th from 12-3PM. Services and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Paula's name to Emerson Health Care Foundation, 133 Old Road to Nine Acre Corner, Concord, MA 01742 or @ https://www.emersonhospital.org/support-emerson/donate-now
