In Loving Memory
Loretta E. (Sunkenberg) Hauer, of Sudbury, Massachusetts, passed away surrounded by her daughters on December 10, 2023, after a four year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Known as Laurie to her friends and family and affectionately called Omie by her grandchildren, she was born in New York City on January 20,1945 to the late Henry and Frances (Azzaretto) Sunkenberg. Laurie was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Roland J. Hauer, her "Schätzie."

Laurie raised her family in Putnam Valley, New York where she was a dedicated mother and friend. With a natural gift for caretaking, she became a teacher's assistant in the after school program at The Lakeland Children's Center, from 2004 to 2013.

Travel was one of Laurie's passions. She enjoyed spending time researching the best places to stay and eat in each country and city she visited. While she was always open to visiting a new place, her annual trips to "the farm" in Germany to visit relatives remained a favorite and cherished destination throughout her life. She was also a baking enthusiast and loved a good British mystery.

Laurie moved to Massachusetts in 2013 to be closer to her growing family. She was an integral part of raising her three grandchildren, whom she adored and spoiled like only an Omie can. Laurie's love of travel naturally extended to exploring New England. Before and after her diagnosis, she made frequent visits to the Cape, Portsmouth, Portland, Newport and the Berkshires. She looked forward to summers on the Maine coast where she hunted for sea glass, enjoyed lobster rolls and watched her grandchildren explore the various beaches.

Laurie is survived by her daughters Lisa Hauer and her partner William Quirk of LaGrangeville, New York, Emily Hauer and her partner James Brown of Sudbury, Massachusetts, and Susan Chisholm and her husband Ben of Sudbury, Massachusetts; her grandchildren, Luke Roland, Eleanor "Lulu", and Samantha Ruby; her brother Henry Sunkenberg, his children Michael, James and Jenna, and his wife Debby of Florida; and her nephew, who she loved like a son, Paul Azzaretto and his wife Alexis and their children Kaela, Kyle and Kolby of Westfield, New Jersey.

There will be no services.
